Nice Unit

Pros: Easy to use, well-designed docking bay. Cooling fan is almost a necessity with these units, and this fan is big enough to avoid Premature Fan Death. Cons: If you are using USB3, and you use an add-on USB3 PCI card (including the StarTech PCI or PCIe adapters) to get USB3, you must connect the optional internal aux. power connection on the card to drive additional power to the USB3 lines, despite the fact that this is a powered docking bay. Otherwise the SATDOCK will run at USB2 speed and y...

Data Saved

Pros: Easy to understand and use. Worked the first time without any issues. Came with all the cables, no need to dig around looking for what is needed. There was time when NOTHING came with cables needed to do the job: printers, USB expansion ports, computer interfaced devices. Situation: RAID 1 computer, PSU smoked also killing CPU board. Was able to use the StarTech docking station to recover data off the drives that otherwise would have been lost. Cons: None. Overall Review: Picked up the ada...

CAUTION!!!

Pros: Cheap, like poison. Cons: The 4" IDE (PATA) power cable that came w/ the unit is WIRED INCORRECTLY! It puts the +12 onto the +5 pin, and your hard drive WILL NEVER WORK AGAIN! And of course, StarTech will not compensate for a lost hard drive or the lost data.... ($95 +$350-$500)STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY STAY AWAY! Works Perfectly

Pros: Works properly with everthing I have tried. Does not lock up or die if the drive has bad sectors. Handles 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SATA by simply inserting the drive. Includes everything needed to connect 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch PATA with adapter cables. Cons: None Other Thoughts: I use this device to recover data from drives that won't boot. Sometimes the drives have bad sectors, and the other IDE/SATA/USB adapters I have tried end up crashing when they hit the bad sectors. This adapter keeps ...

Awesome...

Pros: It is very convenient when you are dealing with a lot of backing up IDE/Sata 2.5 to 3.5 drives day in and day out. This is perfect for quick back ups or quickly running recovery software as necessary. I haven't had any problems and this does work with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Cons: None yet.

Works Great!

Pros: - Fast with SATA III or USB3 interface.- Fan keeps HDD significantly cooler than the previous fan-less unit I owned. - Comes with all required cables- Installation is simple. Cons: - None yet. I ordered this dock to replace my older NewerTech Voyager that started hanging up mid-backup. I hope this one lasts longer.

.

Pros: I bought this because I recently purchased a new computer and wanted to pull the old hard drives from my old computer and access the data on them. The device is very intuitive and easy to set-up and install (on Windows 7 it recognized the drive without having to load any external drivers). The eSATA port works great and has high-transfer speeds. Cons: However, I bought this to also connect occasionally with my laptop that has a USB 3.0 connection. Any time I have used the USB 3.0 on the St...

Great for PATA drives as well

Pros: I have some old IDE drives that I wanted to zero out before turning in for recycling, but I no longer have a computer with internal parallel connectors. I wanted a dock that could handle both IDE and SATA drives and StarTech's is one of the few that could. All cables needed to connect 3.5 and 2.5 inch parallel drives are included, which is very considerate. Cons: The included IDE cables and molex connections for IDE drives are unfortunately too short to allow IDE drives to be placed in the...

Does the job

Pros: Pretty much does everything as advertised. The fact that it comes with every cable you'd ever need is a major bonus. It has a sturdy feel to it in your hands which I honestly didn't expect going into the purchase. Works with Linux as advertised as well. Cons: Can't think of any so far. Other Thoughts: I am very pleased with this product. It's invaluable for computer repair. I bought this for only two reasons, which were the compatibility of interfaces and the fact that it works with Linux....

Good enclosure

Pros: SATA and PATA compatible2.5" and 3.5" compatibleWorks Cons: A little pricey for an external enclosure Other Thoughts: This is a great product. You can attach any SATA *or* PATA drive and they work. Includes all necessary power adapters and an IDE cable. Unlike every other PATA enclosure I've seen, you *DONT* need to use floppy power with this as it includes a 4 pin molex power output to the drive. According to the manual you can use both an SATA and a PATA drive simultaneously, though I ha...
